The goal of the GCF Vocabulary Dictionary is to help adults at all levels become more proficient readers. Originally created to assist native-English speaking adults in literacy proficiency, these videos are also ideal for learning English as a second language. As these videos are tailored to an adult audience, they use realistic imagery and situations; the GCF Vocabulary Dictionary may not be appropriate for use in literacy education with younger populations. Additional vocabulary videos will be added in future versions. This video dictionary is a part of GCFLearnFree.org's adult Reading Program. Our Reading Program is designed to expose learners to the 1,000 most common words in the English language in order to improve adult literacy and English-language learning. Utilizing various educational tools, learners can explore the sounds of letters and words, see images and videos of words, and practice matching words and sounds. Everything is self-paced and self-directed so that students can choose to focus on the areas that are most important and relevant to learn.
